My work & journey

A short version of how I got here. It was less of a plan and more of a series of interesting problems that happened to arrive in a sensible order.

The thread running through all of it is a preference for building over talking about building, and for staying close to the people who use what I make.

Step by step

  1. 2022 — now

    Independent projects

    Self-directed

Building small tools end to end, from the database up, and writing about what worked and what did not.

  2. 2018 — 2022

    Senior engineer

    Placeholder Company

Led the rebuild of a core service, cut its response times by half, and mentored four engineers through their first year.

  3. 2014 — 2018

    Engineer

    Placeholder Company

Shipped features across the stack and learned, the hard way, why tests matter on a Friday afternoon.

  4. 2010 — 2014

    Bachelor of Engineering

    Placeholder University

Studied computer science, spent most evenings in the lab, and built a first website that is best left unmentioned.
